Start: Amesbury Sports Centre, Holders Rd, Amesbury, Wilts [GR 184/161418]
Leave Sports Centre and at end of road turn right, past 20 Zone signs. At T-junction turn right downhill and turn second left into Parsonage Rd. At end cross main road and bear left along lane by telephone box. Continue straight on at end, past South Mill, onto track keeping alongside river bank.
By houses and at signpost turn left uphill. At top straight on over X-tracks continuing downhill. After 600m, at gateway, turn right and follow fence to corner of field by small chalk pit. Turn left and follow footpath by stream then through trees (often muddy) for approx 200m then cross wooden bridge.

Continue on footpath to bridge and gate over river then follow footpath alongside fence and thatched wall, through gate onto fenced path. At road turn left and after 600m turn right (signpost Springbottom Farm) keeping on path in trees over hill and down past farm. Bear right past barn on wide track gradually uphill between fences to pass Normanton Down Barrows signboard.
Q2. At gate sign, missing numbers SU 120? 41?6.
Turn left through gate, (National Trust Footpath) alongside edge of field and turn right through gate onto gravel track. At main road (A303) cross over [CARE!] onto gravel track past Stonehenge, then cross road. Straight on, (By-Way Signpost) for 300m then turn right through gate (National Trust Footpath). [GR SU 1221 4270 on post]. (See Note Above). Bear slightly left away from worn path across field (heading towards large gap in trees on horizon) past The Avenue information board. Through gate then straight on uphill across field, past cattle feeding stall, to gate at top.
Q3. What Barrow, on signboard?
Turn left on track, follow around to right. Through gate then at T-junction with gravel track turn right and continue down to main road. Turn right, cross to pavement on left, under subway and after 100m turn left into Lord’s Walk. Follow alongside river to just before road bridge then cross small wooden bridge and follow path, by seat and up steps. Continue through trees and at end bear left through gate then straight on pavement for 400m. Turn right into Holders Rd and back to Sports Centre.
