Route Directions

From Railway Station turn right down steps and cross main road onto Footpath Wroxall 3 Miles, parallel with driveway to Lower Hyde Holiday Park.

Q1.  On information board at the entrance to the Holiday park, what animal trail are you on?

Ahead on track which is the old disused railway to Wroxall, continuing on tarmac /gravel track under bridges for appx 3000m to Wroxall ignoring all side tracks left and right, at end of gravel track continue ahead to pass the rear of bungalows. At end of footpath bear right with warehouses on left to finally reach the old railway bridge. At T-junction with road turn right and at main road turn left to reach church on left and enter churchyard.

Q2. In the porch on stone wall plaque, who donated the third bell?

After passing church turn left up Station Road, after 30m turn left uphill past Wroxall Community Centre and Primary School on right, then past Berry Mead on right and Yarborough Road on left.  Continue uphill past cemetery on right and immediately after Castle Lane on left, bear right on Footpath V30 Worsley Trail.  Cross two stiles and follow Footpath V33 Shanklin and Downs, uphill through field ignoring stile and path going down on left.  Continue up field keeping on left and straight ahead  to Cooks Castle memorial on left.

Q3.  How many rocks on right side of memorial?

Continue on  through wooded area to T-junction. Turn right to go through gate and into field. Bear right uphill to gate in middle of field and turn left across field towards wood follow track into next field keeping on left side of field with hedge on left through two adjacent gates following Footpath SS10, Shanklin and Worsleytrail. Continue straight on ignoring stile on left with path going downhill, keeping to left of field with fenced hedgerow on left. Through kissing gate, Footpath SS10 Shanklin, through next kissing gate and then descend downhill past Anne’s Wood sign on right and Shanklin Estate Holm Copse board.  Through kissing gate continue on path through middle of field, through another kissing gate and head diagonally across field heading for fence to go through kissing gate in distance.  Through kissing gate and stone steps into churchyard. Continue ahead through churchyard keeping to the right of church to lychgate.

Q4. At the lychgate when was Francis White Popham remembered?

Turn left along main road past recreation ground on left, after The Crab PH turn right into Chine Avenue.  After 100m bear right into Tower Cottage Gardens, straight ahead and at end of gardens turn left down steps and up Eastcliffe Promenade onto cliff path.  Past Osborne Road and along promenade past lift, cross Hope Road into Delphi Road and ascend past Channel View Hotel on left.  Keep ahead on cliff path and immediately after Hideway Cafe turn left on footpath crossing Northcliff Gardens and into St Boniface Cliff Road.  Ahead to cross main road and up Clarence Road turning left into Wilton Park and right up Atherley Road to Station.
